Are you an Untimer?
Untimer is built for Untimers.
An Untimer is anyone who needs the time kept outside their head. Some have a diagnosis and most do not, and nobody asks.
You might recognise this
Time that you only notice afterwards.
Some people can feel time passing. Others only notice it afterwards: the meeting that is suddenly now, the hour that went into one more thing, the evening that is over before it started.
Starting can be the hardest part, because the step from not working to working has nothing to push against. Stopping can be just as hard, because once the work has you it keeps you, and the day never really ends.
None of this is a character flaw and none of it is rare. Researchers have measured real differences in how people sense time, and they vary a lot from person to person.
- You do not feel time passing. An hour is gone before you noticed.
- Starting is hard. The work itself can be easy.
- Stopping is hard too. The work keeps you past the point you meant to leave.
- Your attention gets pulled away. By a phone, a tab, a thought.
- With or without a diagnosis. Either way, you need the time kept for you.
About the word
You decide if it is yours.
We never tell anyone they are an Untimer. We ask. The product and the people share a name on purpose: it is a word you can use for yourself.
It does not mean ADHD. Plenty of Untimers have a diagnosis and plenty do not. Anyone who needs the time kept outside their head can use the word.
You will see "Hello Untimer" now and then in our writing, as a greeting between people who recognise each other.
What Untimer does
It shows you the time, makes starting small, gives the day an end, and keeps a record you can come back to.
It shows you the time
The sand moves, the tab title counts down, and your day is drawn as a timeline. In one study, children with a visible countdown were less anxious about the time ahead and stayed on task more.
It makes starting small
There is nothing to set up before you start. Press and hold, let go. You can name the task if that helps, and you can skip it.
It gives the day an end
You can set an end to your working day, and it is drawn on the timeline, so the day has a place to stop.
It lets you come back
There are no streaks or points. Untimer shows you how many days you came back, and the days you missed look like any other. The note you wrote on the way out is there when you come back.
What it is
Untimer is a timer.
It does not diagnose, treat or manage ADHD, time blindness or anything else. Some people with ADHD find it helpful, and so do plenty of people without it. If you need clinical help, see a clinician.
What it does is keep the time for you, make starting a small deliberate act, and keep a record you can come back to.
